Marseille keen on Valbuena extension

(GSM) Olympique Marseille are keen on retaining the services of Mathieu Valbuena following talks regarding a contract extension.

The France international, who is already tied to the Ligue 1 champions until 2012, is already in the midst of fresh talks regarding a contract extension beyond his current deal.

And Marseille, who are confident Valbuena will put pen to paper, are keen to fend off reported interest in the 25-year-old midfielder, who has become an integral part of their plans again of late.

Coach Didier Deschamps overlooked him during the early stages of the 2009/10 campaign but, having forced his way back in, Valbuena ended the campaign strongly and played a leading role in the club s Ligue 1 title-winning exploits.

Mathieu is and will remain a…

Crystal Palace assistant manager Keith Millen says FA Cup progression has lifted the mood at Selhurst Park ahead of their reunion with former boss Tony Pulis and West Brom.

Alan Pardew s Palace are winless in the league since December 19, seeing dreams of European qualification falter as they have slipped to 13th level on points with Saturday s hosts.

However, Yannick Bolasie s return from a calf problem helped Palace get past Tottenham in the FA Cup fifth round last weekend while Pulis men were dumped out by Championship side Reading.

Pulis staved off relegation in his brief spell at Selhurst Park during the 2013-14 season before leaving due to a disagreement with the club s owners.

And Millen says knowledge of Pulis tactical approach, as well as a…

Bernardo Silva critical of referee over disallowed Man City goal

Bernardo Silva does not think Manchester City should have had a goal disallowed in Sunday s defeat to Liverpool as the midfielder criticised referee Anthony Taylor for a lack of consistency.

City suffered their first league defeat of the season as they fell to a 1-0 loss at Anfield, with Mohamed Salah scoring a brilliant second-half winner.

Before that, Phil Foden had a goal wiped out following a VAR review, with referee Taylor urged to watch a replay on the pitchside monitor – a shirt-pull by Erling Haaland on Fabinho in the build-up led to the strike being disallowed.

That ultimately cost the champions a point, and Silva was particularly disgruntled by Taylor s decision given how he had refereed the game until that moment.

He told Sky Sports: What we …
